FIRST 18 DOGS PUT DOWN IN CALARASI. STD IS POWERLESS.

Today the first 18 dogs have been put down in Calarasi after the rabies emergency was declared. STD did not obtain to foster at least a part of the strays caught (we offered to build a temporary shelter to keep one or two hundreds in quarantene, providing vaccinations and care). No dogs could be removed from the city because of the quarantene measures taken by the health department. The only grants we had were the possibilty to offer food and water to the dogs (waiting 24 hours before the injection) and the use of proper medications to put the animals down. Our Executive President, Laurentiu Vasilescu, witnessed the first 4 euthanasias and checked that they have been performed properly.’ It’s difficult to describe to our supporters the feelings of both our Romanian and Italian team during these painful hours.
