As most of you know, unfortunately the majority of dogs are kept of a chain in Romania. No cultural model has yet been put into place giving dogs the role of ‘member of the family’. Instead, dogs continue to be considered as guards of front and back yards, especially in small provincial towns. It is nothing like western countries, where there are a few exceptions: here it is a sad majority. Thousand hundred’ dogs are given metal tins as a shelter or makeshift ones put together with a few pieces of wood that do not shelter them from the rain or wind.
Save the Dogs has started a programme that gives a locally made wooden hut as a gift to those that accept to spay their animal and to improve their quality of life. In addition to this, wherever possible, we also give a longer chain and try to convince the owner to accept the presence of a rope that allows the it to slide. But in order to do this, we need your help. With just 35 euro you can help us give shelter to one of these poor animals: the warmth of the hut (guaranteed by the straw that we try to supply) will enable them to survive the freezing winter temperatures. A further 5 euro helps us purchase an anti-choke chain. We would also like to remind all associations that we need second hand collars of either synthetic or leather. These will be used to replace the chain that is often placed directly around the neck with great danger for the dogs’ health.
