Save the Dogs has formally broken off its links with the Dutch association Dutchypuppy, founded by the TV personality Bridget Maasland.
The cooperation with the group began 3 years ago after the Dutch presenter adopted a puppy from Rumania, the country where Save the Dogs has been operating a programme of sterilization and adoption of strays since 2002.
The partnership was launched when Dutchypuppy donated a camper worth euro 32,000, which Save the Dogs converted into a mobile clinic to sterilize dogs and cats in remote villages in south-east Rumania. The inauguration of the clinic was filmed by Dutch, Rumanian and Italian TV. This donation was a part of what Bridget Maasland earned for posing for the Dutch version of Playboy.
In 2007 and 2008 Dutchypuppy made contributions to Save the Dogs worth euro 26,900, 25 kennels and approximately 40 tons of dog food.
Despite our repeated requests, the association refused to sign any kind of agreement which would lead to an exchange of balance sheets and to a definition of guidelines for funds raised in Holland. This kind of written agreement is normal practice for all major international organizations and is part of Save the Dogs policy in Italy and Rumania whenever a new link is established with foreign partners.
The need for complete transparency in the management of funds became even more urgent following the broadcast last June of the Dutch programme Xperience, which filmed the veterinary work of the mobile clinic. Since the programme no other financial contribution has been made to the projects in Rumania, and we have not received any communication from Dutchypuppy.
Despite the financial difficulties that Save the Dogs is currently experiencing, as can be seen from the recent closure of one of our four projects in Rumania, the association has decided to keep faith with its basic principles and has broken off all links with Dutchypuppy.

Beste mensen,
Wat ik mis in dit verhaal, is een omschrijving van het samenwerkingsverband. Ik begrijp uit het bovenstaande verhaal dat stichting DPF enkel donaties aan STD heeft gegeven en nergens bijkt uit bovenstaand bericht dat er andere afspraken zijn gemaakt. Buiten dat misschien bij STD de indruk is ontstaan dat zij geld zouden ontvangen voor de gemaakte reportage. Als STD met al haar donateurs op deze wijze omgaat, het klinkt mij in de oren als: geef ons geld anders…., dan denk ik dat STD een kort leven besxhoren is. Misschien dat U mij met een betere anderbouwing kunt overtuigen. Maar bovenstaand bericht zegt mij heel weinig. ALs ik geld doneer aan Greenpeace, vragen zij mij ook niet naar inzage in mijn boeken.

Dear Mr. van Dijk,
the relationship bewteen organisations it’s very different from the one with a private donor: if DP uses our name and our project, and collects money in Holland using them, then there must be a transparency of the fundrarising for us. If they would not use our name, then they could donate anything with no other obligation. We work with many organisations and made similar agreements with big foundations in England and all through Europe (Wspa, for instance): Dutchypuppy was the only one refusing to make a written agreement, which would also be a guarantee for Dutch donors about the way we use money. Why?
I think that STD will last long because one of our main values is transparency, which is extremely appreciated by our supporters.

Meneer Van dijk heeft het niet helemaal begrepen vrees ik. Stichting Dutchy Puppy Foundation zamelt al jaren geld in voor onder andere Save the Dogs en Stichting Dierenhulp Bosnië. Donateurs waren in de veronderstelling dat hun donaties en winst op aankopen bij Dutchy Trading B.V. daar naar toe zouden gaan. Echter Save the Dogs heeft in 2009 geen geldelijke donatie van Stichting Dutchy Puppy Foundation ontvangen. Misschien kunt u zelf na gaan hoeveel Stichting Dierenhulp Bosnië van Dutchy Puppy in 2009 heeft mogen ontvangen. Donateurs hebben diverse malen om de jaarcijfers gevraagd, maar Stichting Dutchy Puppy weigert sinds de oprichting haar donateurs hun jaarcijfers te laten zien. Save the Dogs heeft daarom de samenwerking beëindigd. Het kan toch niet zo zijn, dat er geld voor hen wordt ingezameld, zonder dat ze er nog iets van zien? Zo werkt het niet. Save the Dogs is internationaal gezien een gerenommeerde charitatieve instelling en bestaat langer dan Stichting Dutchy Puppy Foundation. Save the Dogs zal een langer leven beschoren zijn dan de andere partij.
