TRANSPORT OF HORSES, BOOM OF SIGNATURES IN BRUSSELS, EXTENSION TO THE 11TH FEBRUARY

Thanks to the mobilization of Italian and European associations, from 14th to 21st January the number of the Members of the European Parliament who signed the Written Declaration 54/2009 rose from 173 to 275. One hundred signatures in one week, a boom that can be explained only with the support of those who transmitted letters and emails to the MEPs of their country, following the invitation of STD and of other organizations. As far as Italy is concerned, the numbers of signatories rose from 7 to 28: an important result, but not yet sufficient to approve the Declaration. Here you can find the updated list of the English signatories: in this moment we suggest to avoid the massive delivery of emails to those who didn’t signed, but to directly get in touch with the MEP of your own region. Ho scritto al mio rappresentante di zona, vi riporto qui sotto la risposta che ho ricevuto e che non condivido.
Speriamo che altri europarlamentari la pensino diversamente!
“tutti noi stiamo ricevendo in questi giorni molte sollecitazioni per sottoscrivere la dichiarazione scritta sul trasporto dei cavalli.
Il regolamento (CE) 1/2005, entrato in vigore a gennaio 2007 prevede norme a tutela del benessere degli animali durante il trasporto ed entro il 2011 la Commissione presenterà un resoconto della sua applicazione negli Stati membri e si procederà quindi a una sua revisione.
Mi sembra quindi prematuro, e rischia tra l’altro di essere controproducente, entrare nel merito della revisione del regolamento prima di conoscere tutti i dati del rapporto di valutazione ora in corso.
Vorrei comunque ricordarvi che la legislazione europea in materia è la più avanzata e, semmai, ci dovremmo impegnare in sede di negoziati internazionali affinché i Paesi terzi applichino le stesse norme rigorose, dal momento che nei Paesi terzi la situazione è enormemente più drammatica ti quella europea”
