FLOODING: THE WORST IS OVER AND THE ANIMALS ARE SAFE
No comments · Posted by Info in July 2010

These past dreadful days we have feared for the lives of our beloved animals and the fate of the dog home facilities. However, on Sunday the rain stopped and the pumps finally began doing their job. The situation is gradually getting back to normal and, despite all the sludge and muck which the water left behind, the cats and dogs are doing well. Those that had been set free didn’t stray far from the structure and those hoisted up in cages were all thankfully safe and sound.
Now, it’s unfortunately time to assess the damage which adds up to around 10,000 Euros considering the animal food ruined by the water and damp, the several tonnes of gravel which were in the enclosures and were swept away, the rusted metal enclosures which are to be thrown out and the clinic walls, which need new plasterwork and painting. Additionally, a second pump must be bought as well as boots for all the staff. Whoever wishes to give a contribution may do so as always via current account or credit card. We would also like to remind you that for the last two years we have been collecting funds for the new refuge which is to be built on the hills of Cernavoda in a flood-safe area. Whoever wishes to contribute to this aspiration may do so indicating “new refuge construction” as reason for payment. Save the Dogs would like to thank all its supporters who have offered their generosity and encouragement in these days as well as its Scandinavian partners who collected funds and sent volunteers onsite. Thank you everyone!
