CALARASI, THE END OF AN ADVENTURE

Some of the left dogs in Calarasi
It’s almost over. Within next Friday the adventure of Calarasi’s shelter will end, after about two years. 51 dogs are still there, unfortunately they couldn’t leave until now. Some of them are in therapy because of different pathologies, others are males, therefore less requested by the shelters in the North of Italy. About 20 dogs have already been moved to Medgidia and they are waiting to leave, but we are building two temporary wooden pens in order to welcome other 25 dogs. Some of them (7-8) will be lodged in the shelter, waiting for their flight, while the remaining ones will be located (with a huge effort) in our hill land, hoping to find an alternative accommodation soon. As of Monday, we will intensify the relocation of our facilities: containers will be moved to Medgidia (1) and to the donkey shelter (3). Pens, if we didn’t manage to sell them to someone in Calarasi, will be cut and stored in Cernavoda, for a potential future use. The last dogs rescued in Calarasi are those caught in front of the abandoned supermarket, some kilometres away from our shelter. Among them, the famous dog, visible on You Tube, who was eating the body of her dead puppy. At the moment she is in Medgidia, cured by Alina and her staff and waiting to leave for The Netherlands. In some ways we will try to remain in Calarasi, sponsoring Neli, an animal lover who has equipped a small shelter with 50 dogs. We would like to offer her medical assistance with the mobile clinic and the nourishment for her dogs, if we have the necessary resources. Unfortunately, donations literally collapsed in the last two months and we depend on the available funds, without them we can’t do anything. We hope that our supporters, who have always granted their support, will let us help Neli’s dogs and meet the costs for the dismantling of the shelter.
