Even if the mission of STD in Romania is mainly addressed to dogs, we cannot ignore the suffering of the other animals surrounding us. Horses, in particular, mostly used as work animals, live in terrible conditions. In spite of the recent economic boom and the increase of cars, the cart towed by the horse is still the means of transport used in provincial towns and in the country.
However, it is necessary to distinguish between the horses of the farmers, usually well kept, and the horses owned by the Rom community, which always have the same characteristics: underfed, exploited, burnt to cure tendon inflammation, covered by injuries and abrasions. At the end of his career (a career that usually is very short), the horse is resold or directly butchered by the owner, often secretly.
To date STD has rescued 15 horses, all found in terrible conditions, then cured and hosted in the land offered by one of our veterinary doctors and in appropriate pens in Cernavoda and in Medgidia.
With a contribution of 30 Euros per month, you can sustain one of the horses rescued and hosted by STD.
