He was found wondering on the street, disoriented and with a broken leg, after falling out from a moving van. Surely you must remember his story and how the people who alerted us, took him temporarily into their care. Seven months have passed, our donkey is leading a good life and the family which has taken him into their care in April, continues to care for him with great love. (more…)
Just a few months ago we have brought to daylight the case of Johnny the donkey from Constanța, brutally beaten and finally saved by the intervention of the local Police force.
Many citizens informed us about an officer of the Police Station nr. 4 from Constanța, Vasile Petrescu, who has shown a great zeal in saving and confiscating on the sight the poor, gravely injured animal. (more…)
When the Police first saw Johnny the donkey he was being savagely beaten by his owner with a metal pipe. Upon seeing this scene, fit for a horror movie, the policemen from Constanta decided to take action. They gave a fine to the owner and they left the donkey in the care of an animal-loving lady, who immediately contacted us. (more…)
Their stories touched our hearts last winter, but their staying at Footprints of Joy was shorter than we hoped for.
The donkey by the name Marcel was left in our care by his former owner, a farmer from Tulcea county (which is quite far away from Cernavoda), who was very fond of the donkey, but couldn’t afford to keep him any longer.Marcel had to be euthanized after being examined by the English veterinary from Donkey Sanctuary, Karen Richards, who was visiting our shelter. The doctor confirmed the advanced stage of the various illnesses the animal was suffering from due to his old age. He also had mastication problems which made eating difficult for him.
The other donkey who left us was called Vasile, also owned by a poor farmer from Viisoara. Vasile was used for many years by the shepherds to guard the lambs. He was suffering from arthritis, and a result the old animal couldn’t walk, even though he had received the necessary treatment. This illness and other various complications put an end to his days.
We find solace in knowing that these adorable animals had at least a few months of happiness, peace and serenity at our shelter, where they were cared for by Roxana and the staff from donkey shelter Footprints of Joy with love and devotion.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Donkey Sanctuary. They help us to keep in our permanent care 60 donkeys, making sure that these animals are being loved, helped and provided for.
