The pictures testify it: we managed to hit the heart of many Romanians in Medgidia. Mostly women and children. Once the initial suspiciousness was set aside, they come in great numbers holding their animals in their arms. Many refuse the sterilization, but others accept it very willingly, also encouraged by the free antiparasites treatments and by the visits we supply to everyone who approaches us. In these pics you can also see our van supplied with a surgery table to exploit to the maximum the presence of Italian vets.
On the 2nd of May, as promised to the Medgidia Borough, the mobile clinic project has started.
Two Romanian vets, together with two nurses have already spayed and neutered 70 among stray cats and dogs. Together with the surgery table already present (used for small size animals), Save The Dogs has purchased, thanks to the money from its supporters, another table for the back of the camper. The number of the surgeries increase day by day, with the only limit of the number of available post surgery cages which have been donated by the British association WSPA.
Several animals have already been hosted at the Cernovada shelter for an ultimate adoption or for more proper medical cares. At the end of May an Italian group of UNISVET vets will join the Romanian team.
Lots of attention from the Romanian, Dutch and Italian media for the mobile vet clinic opened in the presence of the Italian ambassador Daniele Mancini and the local authorities.
Godmother Bridget Maasland cut the ribbon and expressed the wish the other managers follow the Cernavoda and Medgidia examples. Many Romanian associations were present. The clinic will start on May, 1st 2006 and will allow to spay/neuter about 20 animals per day.
