’ Last wednesday Sara Turetta has been among the guests of a popular program on TVR2, the national Romanian tv. She had the chance to talk about “neuter and release” projects, animal rights and the venue organized in Milan on 9th September, to ask a new European law for stray dogs and to stop the killings in Romania.
The requests made by local activists and the association Vier Pfoten for a neutering and release plan have been constantly overlooked in the city of Targoviste.
The killing of dogs continue to happen here in this city and in almost all of the other cities of Romania. The animals, 10/15 at a time, are gathered in a crumbling area of the local zoo and are shut inside 7 cages of about 6-7 metres squared. The ones that do not die immediately either from disease or by being ripped apart by the others are killed in an unknown method but it seems unlikely that euthanisia is practised in the ‘correct’ manner considering the conditions in which the animals are held. To see the photographs of the death kennel of Targoviste (also those taken by Livia Mariana Vasilescu and her friends, who have witnessed the illegal butchering of horses) click here.
We would like to thank Livia for this important report.
