Who could forget Sheila, who arrived at the shelter last October in Cernavoda with her abdomen sliced open (probably by someone involved in a dispute with her owner)? And who would have ever thought that she’ (who at the time underwent a long and complicated surgery and who was already in her first month of pregnancy) would have given birth a few months later to Filippo? Here he is in the picture just a few days after his birth. He was born naturally at the Rifugio degli Asinelli (the Donkey Refuge) of Sala Biellese, the gorgeous donkey reserve financed by the organisation, Donkey Sanctuary. It was feared that Sheila would have complications during labour as a result of the consequences of her surgery. For this reason, she was added to the group of donkeys that departed for Italy last February. A big thank you goes out to Luca, the veterinarian, and all of Barbara’s aides for the loving care given to Filippo and all of the shelter’s Romanian “guests”.
