He was found wondering on the street, disoriented and with a broken leg, after falling out from a moving van. Surely you must remember his story and how the people who alerted us, took him temporarily into their care. Seven months have passed, our donkey is leading a good life and the family which has taken him into their care in April, continues to care for him with great love. (more…)

The donkey we saved a few days ago in Stefan cel Mare, a village nearby Cernavoda, has fallen from a truck or perhaps a cart that transported him.
After being notified, our veterinaries tried to help the animal that was lying on the street, enduring the pain caused by the numerous terrible wounds he had, besides the broken hoof.Due to the deep cuts and wounds on his skin the animal had infections which made the use of strong anesthetic and antibiotics necessary. The animal is at the present in the custody of the family who notified the STD regarding this case. This is a family well known to us, as they were the beneficiaries of our home medical assistance services that we provide to the donkeys. This case indeed is a double success for STD. First we indeed managed succeeded  to save the animal from a long and painful agony; on the other hand it has been confirmed that our program with the donkeys which has private owners are in good hands, and they do make people take responsibility in order to improve the living conditions of these often mistreated animals.

Please, be a part of this STD project! You are invited to make a donation for our cause of “Assistance for donkeys in private ownerships”.

Two years ago our association – in partnership with Foundation Paideia, Foundation EST and Friends of Homeless Dogs - launched the first riding therapy project for Romanian targetting children with special needs.Almost every day  18 orphans from the Don Orione Center in Bucharest, together with about 40 children suffering from autism, interact with the 4 donkeys, receiving not only physical but also emotional benefits. These benefits were highly considerable amongst the children suffering from autism, as they reacted very well to the contact with the adorable donkeys.

Even though the Foundation Paideia will stop financing the program this May, it will continue by being financially sustained by our Finnish partner and by STD. These funds will cover the medical charges for the animals, while the funds from Don Orione will go to the staff expenses.

Seeing the effective results of the pilot project, STD will try to obtain financial support from private sponsors like companies or bank foundations in order to launch a similar program in Cernavoda. We have already found the necessary space at the Footprints of Joy centre and we have established contact with a group of parents whose children are suffering from autism. We hope to obtain the funds we need for this project, as our goal is to launch it by 2014.

At first it seemed to be a case known only in Great Britain, but the incident of horse meat sold as buffalo meat has reached other European countries, such as France or Ireland. It seems that this ground meat came from Romanian butchers, though the authorities deny these accusations, made by French and English companies. As a result of the incident, Findus has removed from the shelves of the French superstores all of their lasagne-type products based on casserole, which were proved to contain horse meat in a proportion of 99%-100% .
