It is not hard to imagine why 2020 can\u2019t be compared with the previous 18 years since Save the Dogs<\/em> first started working in Romania.<\/p>\n

We have had to face an unprecedented crisis, composed of hundreds of cancelled flights<\/strong>, with our clinical staff decimated<\/strong> by Covid symptoms and travel restrictions imposed by the Romanian health authorities. Yet in spite of everything, we have managed to keep going.<\/p>\n

Our records<\/strong> show a drop in the number of sterilizations<\/strong> carried out, reduced by half compared to the previous year. For several months, the Romanian Health Authorities did not permit us to conduct our usual activities, and we were only allowed to feed stray animals and to operate our emergency clinic. The severe shortage of medical staff also came into play during the final months of last year.<\/p>\n

Our vets on the front line took care of 239 emergencies involving dogs and cats<\/strong>, including those on the streets and those privately owned, while the total number of admissions<\/strong> during the course of the year was 317<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The number of adoptions<\/strong> decreased, but to a lesser degree (248 in total, compared to 290 in 2019), thanks to the road trips we organized in order to deliver 145 dogs to Swedish families.<\/p>\n

Non \u00e8 difficile immaginare che il 2020 non sia paragonabile a nessuno degli altri 18 anni di lavoro di Save the Dogs<\/em> in Romania.<\/p>

Abbiamo dovuto affrontare una crisi senza precedenti, fatta di centinaia di voli aerei annullati<\/strong>, personale della clinica decimato <\/strong>dai sintomi del Covid e limitazioni agli spostamenti imposte dalle autorit\u00e0 sanitare rumene. Ma nonostante tutto, non ci siamo fermati.<\/p>

I numeri del nostro lavoro<\/strong> parlano di un crollo delle sterilizzazioni<\/strong>, dimezzate rispetto all\u2019anno precedente. La ASL rumena per mesi non ci ha consentito di svolgere le attivit\u00e0 ordinarie, ma solo di sfamare i randagi e gestire il pronto soccorso. La grave carenza di medici ha fatto il resto durante gli ultimi mesi dell\u2019anno.<\/p>

Sono state 239 le emergenze che hanno coinvolto cani e gatti<\/strong>, con e senza padrone, e che hanno visto i nostri veterinari in prima linea, mentre gli ingressi complessivi <\/strong>nel corso dell\u2019anno sono stati 317<\/strong>.<\/p>

Sono calate meno, invece, le adozioni<\/strong> (248 in totale, contro le 290 del 2019), grazie ai viaggi su gomma organizzati per poter mandare 145 cani ad altrettante famiglie svedesi.<\/p>

Save the Dogs and other Animals ETS","og_description":"It is not hard to imagine why 2020 can\u2019t be compared with the previous 18 years since Save the Dogs first started working in Romania. We have had to face an unprecedented crisis, composed of hundreds of cancelled flights, with our clinical staff decimated by Covid symptoms and travel restrictions imposed by the Romanian health authorities. Yet in spite of everything, we have managed to keep going. Our records show a drop in the number of sterilizations carried out, reduced by half compared to the previous year. For several months, the Romanian Health Authorities did not permit us to conduct our usual activities, and we were only allowed to feed stray animals and to operate our emergency clinic. The severe shortage of medical staff also came into play during the final months of last year. Our vets on the front line took care of 239 emergencies involving dogs and cats, including those on the streets and those privately owned, while the total number of admissions during the course of the year was 317.
