Thanks to the fixed <\/em>permanent outpost<\/em> at \u2018mosso\u2019, our Friends on the Street unit has been <\/em>taking care of <\/em>dogs belonging to homeless individuals and families <\/em>facing economic hardships <\/em>in Milan\u2019s Municipality Zone 2 since the beginning of March. Here are some of their stories<\/em>. <\/em><\/p>\n

Wendy and Angelo arrive at 8:30 in the evening. It’s pouring down with rain, but the bad weather hasn’t stopped them coming: Angelo knows Wendy needs a check-up and he\u2019s arrived punctually for his appointment. At the beginning of March, we inaugurated a permanent animal welfare outpost for <\/strong>animals belonging to the homeless and indigent families of Milan<\/strong>\u00a0at \u00a0mosso<\/strong><\/a>, a social space run by a Temporary Business Association formed by five non-profit organizations working in the areas of job placement, shelter, culture, and training. Wendy’s is just the first of many appointments scheduled for that day.<\/p>\n

The first permanent outpost on Via Padova for dogs belonging to people experiencing homelessness and for destitute families <\/strong><\/h2>\n

As he waits for the vet to finish setting up the workstation, Angelo says to us, “I spoil Wendy as much as I can. How could you not love her? When she looks up at you with those eyes…” Thanks to the support of a group of volunteer veterinarians, we can now offer free medical care and check-ups for all the dogs and their owners that we follow, ensuring regular check-ups and timely diagnoses, as well as providing sterilization services and guidance on correct animal management.<\/p>\n

“We don’t have much, but we’ve chosen to adopt her regardless. She\u2019s been through a lot in the past and deserves to have a better life,” he continues. Angelo and Wendy are one of the duos we follow who are able to benefit from our regular assistance.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the fixed outpost at \u2018mosso\u2019, we can also extend our support to the community in Via Padova in Milan, a multi-ethnic neighborhood where many individuals in need can access dedicated facilities for their pets every month, along with essential supplies like food, leashes, harnesses, and muzzles, which are essential for getting around the city using public transportation.<\/p>\n

Visits, veterinary assistance and essential supplies: what we offer free of charge to all the duos we follow<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The first thing we do is check Wendy’s documents and microchip, to ensure everything is in order. The vet then examines her by carrying out a simple routine check-up to make sure she is in good health. Wendy is indeed thriving, and we recently spayed her free of charge.<\/p>\n

“I take her with me everywhere I go, she\u2019s not afraid of anything,” Angelo tells us as he strokes her. Wendy may not be afraid of anything, but like all dogs she looks suspiciously at the vet while she is being examined. When it’s time for her injection, she seeks comfort in Angelo’s arms: she doesn\u2019t understand what\u2019s going on, even though we\u2019re doing it for her own good!<\/p>\n

At the end of the visit, we give Wendy a well-received biscuit and Angelo some cans of wet food, which we know she loves. We watch them as they walk away in the rain and get ready to assist the next pair in need.<\/p>\n

Dai primi di marzo, grazie a un presidio fisso presso mosso, la nostra unit\u00e0 di Amici di Strada si prende cura dei cani dei senza fissa dimora e delle famiglie con grosse difficolt\u00e0 economiche del Municipio 2 di Milano. Ecco le loro storie. <\/em><\/p>

Sono le 20:30 quando vediamo arrivare Wendy e Angelo. Piove a dirotto, ma il meteo avverso non li ha fermati: Angelo sa che Wendy deve fare un controllo ed \u00e8 venuto puntuale all\u2019appuntamento che gli avevamo dato. All\u2019inizio di marzo abbiamo inaugurato un presidio fisso di assistenza per gli animali dei senza fissa dimora e delle famiglie indigenti<\/strong><\/a> della citt\u00e0 di Milano presso mosso<\/strong><\/a>, lo spazio sociale gestito da un\u2019Associazione Temporanea di Imprese formata da cinque\u00a0<\/strong>realt\u00e0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>no-profit<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>che lavorano nell\u2019ambito dell\u2019inserimento lavorativo, dell\u2019accoglienza, della cultura, della formazione. Wendy \u00e8 solo la prima dei tanti appuntamenti di quella giornata.<\/p>

Il presidio fisso per i cani dei senza fissa dimora e delle famiglie indigenti in via Padova<\/strong><\/h2>

\u201cLa vizio come posso. Come si fa a non amarla? Quando ti guarda con quegli occhi\u2026\u201d, ci racconta Angelo mentre aspetta che la veterinaria finisca di sistemare la sua postazione. Grazie al supporto di un gruppo di veterinari volontari, possiamo fornire cure e visite gratuite a tutti i binomi che seguiamo. Questo si traduce in controlli regolari, diagnosi tempestive, ma anche sterilizzazioni e consigli sulla gestione degli animali.<\/p>

\u201cNoi non abbiamo grandi possibilit\u00e0, ma abbiamo deciso di adottarla comunque. Ha un passato terribile e non si meritava quello che ha vissuto\u201d, prosegue. Angelo e Wendy fanno parte dei binomi che seguiamo e che beneficiano del nostro aiuto.<\/p>

Grazie al presidio fisso da mosso, possiamo raggiungere anche la comunit\u00e0 di Via Padova di Milano, un quartiere multietnico dove ogni mese tante persone in difficolt\u00e0 possono trovare uno spazio dedicato ai loro animali, dove ricevere anche materiali utili come cibo, guinzagli, pettorine e museruole, fondamentali per spostarsi in citt\u00e0 con i mezzi pubblici.<\/p>

Visite, cure veterinarie e beni: ci\u00f2 che offriamo gratuitamente a tutti i binomi<\/strong><\/h2>

La prima cosa che facciamo \u00e8 controllare i documenti di Wendy e il chip, per assicurarci che sia sempre tutto in regola. Poi si passa alla visita, un semplice controllo di routine in cui la veterinaria si accerta che sia in salute. Wendy sta crescendo bene e l\u2019abbiamo sterilizzata gratuitamente nelle scorse settimane.<\/p>

\u201cLa porto con me ovunque vada, non ha paura di niente\u201d, ci racconta Angelo mentre la accarezza. Wendy non ha paura di niente, ma come tutti i cani guarda con diffidenza la veterinaria che la sta visitando. Quando arriva il momento della puntura, si nasconde tra le braccia di Angelo alla ricerca di un po\u2019 di conforto: lei non pu\u00f2 saperlo, ma lo stiamo facendo per il suo bene.<\/p>

Al termine della visita, diamo a Wendy un bel biscotto per farci perdonare e lasciamo loro qualche scatoletta di umido, di cui \u00e8 ghiotta. Li guardiamo mentre si allontanano sotto la pioggia, pronti per assistere il prossimo binomio. \u00a0<\/p>
