Meni and her fresh start with Catherine

Meni and Catherine
Meni arrived with us in 2012, in the arms of a Romanian woman who had found her on the streets of Medgidia. It is likely that her family, having originally gotten her to entertain their children, had quickly grown tired of her and had abandoned the little dog.
Medgidia is a small town 15 km from Cernavodă, where Save the Dogs ran a sterilization and emergency care center for ten years. Thousands of animals were helped by this small facility, which unfortunately had to close in 2017 due to a severe shortage of veterinary staff and funding. However the center was still fully operational in 2012, and tiny, fearful Meni was immediately welcomed by the Save the Dogs team.
Thanks to a Dutch association that was working with us at the time, Meni was spotted online by Catherine, a psychoanalyst from Brussels with an all-consuming love for dogs. The Belgian capital was easily accessible to Dutch volunteers, and after confirming Catherine’s suitability as an adopter, Meni was flown to the Netherlands to join her new owner.
Thirteen years have passed since that day, and the adoption has transformed the lives of both Meni and Catherine.
Meni no longer wears the sad expression she had in her eyes during her time at the shelter in Medgidia; she has become the mascot of Forest Park, the neighborhood in Brussels near where she lives and where she enjoys their long daily walks. Catherine loves Meni as a daughter and has become a loyal and generous donor of Save the Dogs, offering her home to our President whenever she has needed to meet with members of the European Parliament and the European Commission. Moreover, Meni has helped raise awareness about the suffering of abandoned dogs in Romanian shelters, many of whom sadly do not live to tell the tale, encouraging large numbers to support our cause.
Every adoption is a testament to unbounded generosity, bringing with it a wealth of blessings.
