Long distance adoptions

In our shelter of Cernavoda we host about 200 dogs, 50 cats, 61 donkeys and 12 horses.

One of the our main goals is to find adoptive families for all our dogs and cats. Yet this is not always feasible. Our long distance adoption program is dedicated to those animals that spend with us a longer period.

By choosing to adopt one of our dogs, cats, horses or donkeys you will make the difference for them, thus helping them to overcome stories of abuse and abandon. You will be the protagonist of their rebirth: together we will manage to offer them a happy ending!

ACHILLES

When he was very little, he was abandoned outside our Footprints of Joy shelter in Cernavodă.

He was terrified and wouldn’t let anyone get close to him. For weeks, he stayed in his kennel, trembling with his tail between his legs — during that time, our trainers worked tirelessly with him.

Now he’s a big, strong dog, but he still needs us — and he really needs you.

ANDERSON

He was only three months old when the Save the Dogs driver found him on the side of the road. Since that moment, he has always been afraid of speeding cars, big dogs, and loud noises.

Over time, thanks to the work of our trainers, Anderson now lives peacefully under the care of our staff.

He loves running free in the “Free Prints” area — the space in our shelter dedicated to dogs who, due to behavioural issues, cannot be adopted.

NERA

One cold winter morning, our team found her on the roadside during one of their daily patrols.

Nera was exhausted and could barely stand on her legs.

Thin and shivering, she was rescued and treated by our veterinarians. The wounds on her body healed quickly, but the ones in her mind still keep her from finding a real home.

Will you be the one to take care of her?

BOBTAIL

Bobtail chose us!
Bobtail, known as Bob, after wandering for a long time, one day reached the gates of our Footprints of Joy shelter in Cernavodă — and decided it was the perfect place to live!

At first, he preferred a quiet spot near the stables with the donkeys and horses, but little by little, he made his way to the doors of our clinic, where now every day he welcomes anyone who comes to visit.

We don’t know what he went through before — he bears many scars and has a cropped tail — but here his new life began, a life you can be part of too!

VICTORIA

She and her companions in misfortune would have starved to death, tied up in a field, if we hadn’t stepped in.

Sponsoring Victoria means giving her a new life — and supporting our emergency rescue projects.

Since the beginning, Save the Dogs has also cared for equines — animals too often treated as working tools to be discarded once they’re no longer useful.

FANE

Fane’s story is one of abandonment.
Found alone and hungry on the streets of Medgidia, he had been left behind because he was too weak to pull a cart. Without our intervention, he wouldn’t have survived.

Today, Fane lives in our donkey sanctuary, where he’s become the “leader” of the group. Sponsoring him means ensuring he has a peaceful life — and supporting our rescue projects for abandoned equines.
