Atrocities in a Public Dog Shelter

SHOCK IN ROMANIA

A journalistic investigation, together with the dissemination of dramatic images from the Suraia dog shelter, has brought the issue of euthanising dogs as a means of controlling stray dogs and overpopulation back to the forefront of public debate in Romania.

On Sunday 22 February, a demonstration is planned in front of the Parliament, where a draft legislation is currently being debated that would recognise animals as sentient beings rather than objects and would eliminate euthanasia for abandoned dogs.

UPDATE

Despite freezing temperatures, 3,000 people took to the streets in Bucharest on February 22 to protest against the atrocities committed in the country’s public shelters, carried out with the complicity of corrupt institutions.
