New Boxes in Milan: more inclusive support for all

New intakes
The Friends on the Street project keeps growing: starting today, new boxes are available in Milan, offering temporary shelter for the dogs of people experiencing homelessness while they access essential services like showers, clothing, and meals.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Municipality of Milan and third-sector organizations such as the Detto Fatto cooperative and the Fondazione Fratelli di San Francesco, two more key locations in the city have joined the solidarity network we’ve built together — ensuring that no one is left behind, neither people nor their animals.
At both centers, some staff have received specific training to help animals cope with the temporary separation from their human companions, ensuring safety, health monitoring, and — when needed — basic veterinary care.
As reported by la Repubblica, these new boxes are part of a broader co-design plan for social inclusion, coordinated by the Municipality’s Welfare Department. Today, 10 boxes are active across the city, distributed among five services dedicated to people living in extreme marginalization.
“This is a small step, but one full of meaning,” said our president, Sara Turetta. “It’s a replicable model that we hope can be extended to other services and cities.”
Thank you, as always, to those who make projects like this possible. Thanks to you, we’re building a fairer, more humane kind of welcome — for everyone.
