Our President’s appeal:

“Dear Save the Dogs’ friends and supporters,

August is the month of a well-deserved rest for us all.

Yet there are some people who, during these weeks, continue working tirelessly, assisting numerous animals in need in Romania. Everyday they reach remote villages through the mobile clinic to assist the animals in the area, they offer home assistance to owned horse, particularly exploited in this period in the countryside, they drive our lucky dogs to the airport, assuring that they leave safely for Northern Europe.

These people are the operators of Save the Dogs Romania, for whom each day is a challenge, even when everyone seems to forget about them.

As a matter of fact even if everyone goes on vacation we cannot stop working, not even in August.

Let us feel that you do not forget about us and that, from a mountain trail or a sunny beach you still remember the seven hundred animals living in our shelters, whom you send a small donation. Our summer in Romania will be less difficult thanks to your precious support.

Thank you very much,

Sara Turetta.”

Public shelter in Bacau (March 2014)

A few days ago Vier Pfoten Association has published the results of a survey concerning the Romanian public kennels, which have been examined in order to determine their compliance with the Romanian law in force. The study has been carried out between the months of March and May 2014 on a sample of 43 facilities located in different areas of the country. Following the positive action undertaken in Medgidia, Save the Dogs launches the program for the identification and registration of owned dogs also in the city of Cernavoda.

Thanks to a partnership with the Municipality, the latter providing the necessary microchips, a few days ago our operators have started a real “door to door” campaign. Our purpose is to sterilize and register owned dogs at our expense, offering a free of charge service for the citizens.

Save the Dogs has also hired a part-time operator, who will record the dogs in the canine register.  This represents a further effort supported by our association in order to carry forward our work at best.

There are still very few places in Romania where the activity of identification and registration of owned dogs has started, as envisaged by the Romanian law. Through this action Save the Dogs intends to insist on the positives aspects of the legislation, hoping that other municipal administrations may take Cernavoda and Medgidia as virtuous examples to be reproduced on their own territory.

FROZEN LAW, YET KILLINGS GO ON

Last Friday, the Court of Appeal of Bucarest has decided to suspend the implementation rules of the “strays killing” law, as a result of an appeal brought forth by Vier Pfoten Association. This action is very positive, although it would be wrong to incite excessive illusions. In fact, the implementation rules of the law are just frozen, while the law maintains the same framework approved by the Parliament last September. (more…)
