Amy’s new life
Story of the monthAmy now spends her days exploring the paths near her home in Switzerland, alongside her new companions: two dogs and a cat. After a difficult start in life, she has finally found long-term stability with a supportive family, thanks to the collaboration with the Bellinzona Animal Protection organization, our partner for international adoptions.
Her story began under very different circumstances, however. Last summer, Amy arrived at the Footprints of Joy shelter with her mother and sisters after they had been abandoned. Health checks revealed that some of the puppies had contracted parvovirus, a serious and highly contagious disease that requires immediate isolation and strict protocols to protect all the animals at the shelter.
Once she had made a full recovery, Amy took part in a rehabilitation and socialization program supported by shelter staff and trainers. This prepared her for access to the international adoption network and subsequently led to her meeting a Swiss family who were ready to welcome her and give her a fresh start.
Amy’s story is not an isolated case, but reflects a much larger mission. In 2025, 171 animals from our shelter in Romania found loving homes. This is a particularly significant figure, as it is the first time in three years that the number of dog adoptions have shown an increase.
These achievements are the result of networking with partner organizations, structured behavioral recovery programs, and the ongoing support of all those who believe in Save the Dogs’ work.
Every adoption is both a personal success story and part of a broader approach grounded in expertise, responsibility and international collaboration. Amy’s new life is living proof of just what can be achieved, working together.
