Zorro Rescued from a life on a chain

Story of the month

Zorro spent his entire life chained up in a backyard in a village in Romania, mistreated by those who were supposed to protect him. When the local police alerted us to his situation and asked us to take him in, we immediately brought him to Footprints of Joy.

Despite his traumatic past, Zorro has shown great trust in humans, while significant difficulties immediately emerged when interacting with other dogs. We therefore began a socialization program to manage his anxiety and develop his communication skills with other dogs, and he is making tremendous progress.

Zorro will soon find a forever home, but many dogs confined to chains will never be so lucky.

In Romania, keeping a dog on a chain is still legal, and in rural areas (which make up most of the country) it is the norm. In fact, a chain just two meters long is sufficient, though this limit is often not respected.

Save the Dogs does everything possible to convince owners to stop this form of abuse, and when that is not possible, it provides longer chains, which slightly improve the living conditions of these unfortunate animals.
