Emergency at the Constanța public shelter: 13 dogs taken to Footprints of Joy

For days, images had been circulating on social media showing hundreds of dogs crammed into cages, often very small, surrounded by filth and in severe distress.

On Wednesday, July 22, we decided to see it with our own eyes, and we were faced with a living hell for the more than 500 dogs confined there, many of whom die from disease or are torn apart in fights.

The local Save the Dogs team removed 13 animals, selecting those in the worst condition but also with good chances of adoption and who tested negative for the main infectious diseases. The dogs were taken into the quarantine wing of our clinic, where they will remain under close observation for two weeks to prevent the risk of outbreaks.

But we will not stop here: together with other Romanian associations, we are taking action on multiple fronts to put pressure on the authorities, who have tolerated this extremely serious situation for years—one that involves numerous illegalities.
