GUIDELINES FOR AN AWARE DONOR (ANIMAL LOVER)

Faced with the proliferation of associations of all kinds, often without clear objectives, we want to offer a few meditation hints for those who want to support the animal cause in a conscious way.

Indeed, the risk of donating only following the emotions is very high, often we make no objective assessment of the impact that our contribution may have.

To those who wish to support in a critical way – and therefore in an effective way – an animal rights organization, we recommend to check that:

  • there exists a Statute and well-defined governing bodies (Executive, Assembly, Auditor etc.)
  • the association is registered in the voluntary registers or in the registry office of the non-profit organizations
  • the budgets are public or available on request, are drawn up in a complete and legible way
  • there exists an official bank account of the association (not assigned to a private person)
  • the association is willing to provide a receipt for the donation/s collected
  • the ongoing projects and the objectives are clearly defined and measurable
  • a timely update of the activities is provided
  • direct access to the facilities managed by the association or the opportunity to visit the projects are granted
  • the operators and the association’s Executive are competent on the issues covered by the mission
  • there exists a clear and agreed policy that sets out the guiding principles of the organization and their practical declination.

Not all these points are likely to be met, yet the majority of them should. The association should however struggle to include all these points.

Moreover we want to emphasize that Save the Dogs distances itself from all those associations who use an aggressive and violent language in front of emotional issues.

For this reason, in no way we accept to accommodate racist comments on our social network or to collaborate with organizations who disseminate xenophobic or denigrating messages.
